Slunj is a living chapter of European history. From traces of French administration to the era of the Military Frontier, when Slunj served as a vital defensive outpost under the Habsburg Monarchy, the town is steeped in tales of resilience and legacy. The influence of powerful Croatian noble families — the Frankopans and Zrinskis — is still felt, their heritage woven into the region’s culture and fortified architecture.

Walk through the enchanting mill village of Rastoke, where the Slunjčica River cascades into crystal pools. Let legends of fairies and nocturnal spirits come to life in this unique Natura 2000 site. During European Heritage Days, Slunj offers a rich program that celebrates history, tradition, music, dance, theater, and gastronomy.

Discover Slunj’s Military Frontier history with a guide dressed in a historic 18th-century uniform.
