Homeland war
On 16 November 1991, the Yugoslav National Army and the Serb paramilitary powers entered Slunj by tanks from the direction of the Plitvice Lakes, Vojnić and Veljun that the small number of 800 poorly armed defenders could not withstand. This started the exile of 13,000 inhabitants of Slunj and the surrounding villages across Bosnia to Karlovac. During the war, Rastoke were completely destroyed and devastated. The occupation of Slunj lasted until 6 August 1995 when Slunj was liberated within the military and police operation named ‘Oluja’.
